It is the Australian Dream. To retire from the daily grind of work and head off across the Nullarbor, drive to the tip of Cape York, explore the Red Centre, eyeball a crocodile in Kakadu, dive the Great Barrier Reef. The list goes on. What better way to do all that than in a caravan!
For the past twenty years, we have owned caravans (known as RVs or trailers in the USA). The first was an A-Van which popped up into an A-frame camper in less time than it takes to put on the kettle.
Although much loved, we farewelled the A-Van for the more comfortable Lotus Uptown, with its shower and toilet, washing machine and leather seats, huge fridge and roomy queen sized bed.
In this year’s A to Z we will visit some of Australia’s lesser known but nonetheless interesting places. The stories that you read will sometimes be of our own experiences but more often, they will tell the legends and chronicles of the people who lived and died somewhere on this vast, unpredictable continent we call home.
I love a good travel theme! Especially of places I have never been to. Fun 🙂

I love all travel, but especially love the kind that avoids air and keeps close to the ground. I’ll be back in April. All the very best for the challenge.

There is a little bit of air travel involved but only very short trips.

Great, we will be able to map your route for our future trips. Don’t forget we are Yanakie if you are coming this way.

Its taken us 20 years to visit all these places in a caravan so don’t try and do them all at once.

I’m really looking forward to hearing more about the real Australia in your posts! My Dad lived there as a young man, but it’s almost 50 years since he left so all my knowledge of Australia is based on his tales from the 1960s and watching Aussie soaps on TV. I’ll pop in and out throughout the Challenge to catch up.
Caravanning sounds awesome by the way. My husband and I have a dream to drive across Europe in a motorhome when we retire but with Brexit happening I’m not sure how possible that is now.

We hired a small motorhome in France for a week and drove along the Loire Valley. It was magic. As Australians we had no problems so Brexit should not make any difference, hopefully. Surely you would just need your passport and maybe an International Drivers Licence. Time will tell.

I’m looking forward to reading more of your tales. We bought a camper about 2 months ago as an escape hatch for me pending what happened with the coronavirus as I have lung and other health issues. We’re also planning to travel with it once we get the OK.
Best wishes,
Rowena
